PCR recyclates for the highest demands in the cosmetics industry
Breitungen, September 2022 – The plastics distributor and compounder BIO PLASTICS & Recycling GmbH & Co. KG is continuously expanding its range of sustainable materials. Recently, several of the company’s recyclates from 100 percent post-consumer collections have been approved for applications in the cosmetics industry.
With PreFin® F (polyethylene) and PreProp® F (polypropylene), BIO PLASTICS & Recycling GmbH & Co. KG now has recyclates that have been certified for applications in the cosmetics sector. According to the test report, the PP and PE materials are suitable for leave-on & rinse-off products. The examination of the granules showed that they meet the requirements of the legal regulations and are therefore suitable as raw materials for primary packaging in the cosmetics industry. PreFin F and PreProp F can thus be used, for example, for the packaging of shower gel or shampoo (rinse-off), as well as skin creams or body lotions (leave-on). The materials can be processed in injection moulding, extrusion and blow molding processes.
New possibilities with recyclate
Daniel Römhild, sales manager and authorized officer at BIO PLASTICS explains: “The demand for recyclates with high purity is constantly increasing and this trend will continue. More and more consumers and companies value resource conservation and a low carbon footprint. We want to take this development into account and open up new application markets for our customers with our high-quality, certified PCR recyclates. The production of translucent as well as bright, luminous applications is also possible with the new materials. We only partially use old plastics from the packaging flow, but have secured other sources of raw materials for the long term. In the future, we want to further expand our portfolio of sustainable polymers and add additional certified product groups, such as B. ABS, polyamide, polystyrene, polycarbonate and POM expand. We already offer a large number of recyclates and bio-based plastics. We are particularly proud of the certification of our company according to EuCertPlast. This is official confirmation that BIO PLASTICS treats post-consumer plastics according to best practices and with respect for the environment. The EuCertPlast certification is the prerequisite for being able to produce products with the Blue Angel from our recyclates – an important argument for environmentally conscious plastics processors.”
High purity – high security
According to the tests, the materials meet the requirements of Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 and Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 and are therefore suitable as primary packaging material for cosmetic products for the intended use (make-up remover pads ( lotion and oil; leave-on), nail polish remover pads (leave-on) and peeling pads (leave-on; pack size 100 ml) as well as other specific applications. The assessment is partly based on the requirements for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food according to Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011.
The material specialists at BIO PLASTICS are currently working on recyclates with approval for use in the toy sector (according to EN 71-3) and with food contact.
The high-quality recyclates can be seen at the PCD in Paris from January 25 to January 26, 2023 or at the Cosmoprof Bologna from March 16 to March 20, 2023.
